Drill a few holes in your inspection boards so any rain entering through the entrance can drain away.
Bees really appreciate being warm and not subject to cold draughts all winter long.
That they can survive these drafts (and even matchsticks under the crown boards) says more about the bees ability to survive rather than what the "caring" beekeeper has done for them.

It's really simple....... bees have tio generate their own warmth during the colder months, any insulation that helps reduce their energy usage during this winter period is good.
