I try and leave 12- 15lbs of honey in all colonies for Autumn , supplement later with syrup or fondant and rely on the usually good income of Ivy for them.
Where are you nealth, it helps if you add a location. There is so much generic talk in the UK about beekeeping that it becomes really difficult to understand what the facts and issues are in different areas. I am a real critic about the BBKA being a southern biased association because they dole out generic advice and info based on southern beekeeping practices. We never get an Ivy flow in my area as its way too cold and windy when it flowers for the bees to access it. So I always try to understand what is happening on a regional basis. Something the BBKA never do.
