Wasps, I also emptied my wasp trap at my apiary near Wynyard for the 5th time in 2 weeks. They killed a nuc and have tortured my bees this year. I destroyed one wasp nest but there must be several others as I can't empty this fast enough.

That's an effective trap. A funnely bottle poked into the side. What do you put inside to attract the wasps?

Mick
Did you drill the perfect hole to push the plastic bottle top in the side of the 5 litre plastic container and then put a seal around the edge??!! It obviously works and has killed thousands of would be hive robbers!

I cut a Union flag shape into the bottle and then push the bottle top in, the segments help retain and seal the joint. I put a mixture of sugar syrup, berry juice ( Vimto ) and a few drops of cider vinegar in and I can have 20 wasps in it by the time I set a second one up.

Alfred, my understanding of wasps has it that they do preferer protein while brood rearing but switch to carbs once that stops.

Thanks Mick looks impressive, may try some next year!
Just ordered loads of (necessary??!!) bee stuff from Maisemore Sale, some really good prices for second quality frames etc., so quite looking forward to getting this stuff with my only problem being space to put it all, already got my extractor in a spare bedroom??!! :)

JoJo you can NEVER have enough kit. Keep up the good work.
If garden is big enough a dedicated bee shed... a large dedicated bee shed :)
