I doubt for sure if anyone knows if they are off spring from an existing uk nest or are incursions that have successfully managed to hitch a ride on vehicles/boats coming over from France.

They are certainly here to stay if incursions aren't dealt with, once a nest or two complete a full cycle then expansion will begin. Next few years will tell if efforts are working but NBU will have their work cut out to keep pace me thinks. At the mo they are probabaly working very hard with few resources.

It appears two AH nest siting's in Hampshire one just N/E of Winchester , NBU apparently have traced and destroyed the nest another confirmed siting in coastal town of Alresford/SouthCoast, NBU field agents being kept busy at the mo.
Strange, I wonder why this hasn't been publicised before now.

Alresford is not a coastal town, and is North East of Winchester, you appear to be confusing the issue. A news release was due to have been made this afternoon, but in true Govt. style, has been delayed.

It's inevitable...all we are doing at present is delaying the day. Given the numbers being unearthed at the moment, it's suggesting they are already here.
The interesting question is how well (or poorly) they might establish. The ones in Portugal don't release new queens until November and that is a warm climate.

Your right glad you noticed it as I made right ol typo of it .

One apparantly in Alresford and the other a bit south in Lymington.

A press release was due but probably waitng for the finding of the Lymington siting to see if thay are related to each other.

If they are here or persist then the specie I suppose may evolve over time and bring forward their the sexuals developement to suit our climate .

The slow release of information is frustrating - especially when people clearly have access to inside information at least 3 days ago -

They're going to make a whole page dedicated to Asian Hornet on the Gov website apparently.

I've subscribed to .gov.uk press releases and nothing about AH has come through about this last batch.

From nbu news page

September 2018 - Asian Hornet Update
A report of an Asian hornet sighting made on the 22/09/18 by a member of the public in New Alresford, Hampshire and was found the following day by the National Bee Unit. The nest has been destroyed and sent for laboratory examination.

The NBU are also investigating a report of a single hornet on the south coast of Hampshire.

The NBU is continuing surveillance for further nests and beekeepers across the UK are urged to remain vigilant and to report any sightings either via the Asian hornet Watch App for android, the Asian hornet Watch App. for Iphone, email or the online recording form.

Surveillance is ongoing in Fowey, Cornwall. No hornets have been seen at this location since the two nests were destroyed earlier this month.

Local surveillance is continuing in Hull, East Yorkshire, where a single dead hornet was found in a house

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/asia ... gs-in-2018

To date, there have been nine confirmed sightings of the Asian hornet in England and six nests have been destroyed.

That's the page that Defra will update from now on.
There's a list at the bottom of updates:
1 October 2018
Amended information about nests destroyed and added a link
1 October 2018
Amended the number of nests destroyed
28 September 2018
First published.
