Hi all
I've had a chat with Paul, the new admin, and he's suggested we don't alter things to allow photo uploads.
You can use photo storage from Flickr and other places to share photos.

However it has taken me some time to work out how to get it to work.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/188936129@N06/51113028093/in/dateposted-public/" title="2021-04-12 23.38.40"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51113028093_f8d9d8670f_m.jpg" width="120" height="240" alt="2021-04-12 23.38.40"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

That's the code from Flickr for sharing using Embed.

But you need to cut this bit
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51113028093_f8d9d8670f_m.jpg

and put that inside the IMG tags and then it works.

I will speak to Paul again about trying to make this simpler. Cos actually you're right its a nuisance!

IIRC one of the reasons we were told there is no direct photo upload on this site was due to copyrighted images being uploaded to the old site by posters and the owners threating to sue the BBKA unless they were taken down.
The current system doesn't really address this issue as you only need to know the URL (web address) of any image and it will display here.
A case of making life difficult for the majority of users.

Also in this age of numerous social media platforms with instant sharing it leaves the bbka stuck 30 years in the past, nothing unusual there, but it really must try and drag itself into the 21st century or people just won't use the forum, which I feel is the case now.

It will probably involve an upgrade or move to a more featured design which would come at a cost.
Either the bbka absorb this or its done by adverts across the top where users pay a subscription not to see them.
Youre right about the usage Mick-but would any improvement be worth expenditure on such a small population?
Its a shame.

You are right Nigel that there was an issue with a copyrighted photo being shown - on the forum before the previous one I believe. There was no way of knowing that the photo was owned by Getty Images - How do I know this? It was me, as I took the picture from another site who had, presumably, got hold of the picture from somewhere.
However there won't be too many pictures posted in the near future so the moderators could potentially check them out.
