Early Spring pollen
PostPosted:30 Mar 2022, 18:53
After 10 years beekeeping this is a first for me. The last few years I have been using pollen sub as my bees never get chance to forage much before April and I used a bit early in March again. The last 2 weeks have been amazing. The bees have been digging out huge amounts of old pollen and throwing it out. Never seen that before. Managed to inspect all colonies last week at 17c and in quite a few the queens have had to leap frog a frame rammed with fresh pollen to continue to lay. Never seen that before either in Spring. Worry is it snowed all day today although never laid and its 4c, I have visions of abandoned brood on the edges next inspections. But its been a fantastic start.
