Visit by Inspector today, we'd met before great guy. Clean bill of health, some sac brood was the worse thing he found....and not a lot of if. Turns out the possible source was about 2km from me. A neglected hive which had belonged to owners mother that he never bothered looking after. Dies, out gets robbed bees get EFB, gets reinhabited, Bees get EFB swarms etc etc. Now in that great bonfire in the sky. Thankfully I have a bank of forests between me and the source which means my bees would rarely if ever travel in that direction. Probably dodged a bullet there.
Did you know there are no registered beekeepers in Helmsley?
I pointed him in the direction of one I knew of.
Did you know bee inspectors are not allowed to go off road unless in 4x4. NBU can't afford to lease 4x4's for the inspectors, so what do they have do to do their jobs? Go off road. Crazy.

But thank goodness for the bee inspectors....He has been working very hard on his own to try and clear this outbreak. Hopefully he thinks he's traced the source.....but there is a high probability that any swarms that left that hive will die out due to having EFB, then nearby hives find and rob and it all starts over again. Shall we say this area is red spotted for the next few years.

Individual inspectors do a great job, its such a shame they are so under resourced by the government to make their posts almost pointless.
