I am sure that you are already ahead of me on this, but don't forget that many Divisions and County Associations hold libraries of books donated by members and families of ex-members and they are often a very under-used resource of expensive and authoritative textbooks.

On checking, I note for example that our Division holds a copy of the Eva Crane book and I bet a pair of wax moth it hasn't been used in a long while. So always worth finding out before shelling out, if it is mainly to pass a specific module.

Worth having a constant search set up on e-bay and the like. In recent years I have acquired most of the Eva Crane books. for between £20-30. I bought a Buy it now hard back copy of Honey a comprehensive guide for £16 including postage a few months back....then sold it on for a slight profit ;)
You can (or could) buy a a brand new copy of the World History Of Beekeeping which had a slight binding defect fort £60 from IBRA. A fascinating if somewhat dry tome, but well worth the effort of reading.
Lots of really interesting snippets and stuff you never knew like where did the cold warm way of frame arrangement originate? Clue Not Europe.....
Did you know some wasps produce honey?
And so on.

It's sometimes because they want you to consider the possibility of something like having to move a hive with many supers on. The answer 'wait until the supers are taken off' probably isn't acceptable. :)
Whether they should just be a bit more blunt about why they're mentioning a month is another matter.
I have seen something about suggestions for changes to the modules syllabi being encouraged..

Months or seasons shouldn't be a term of refrence. It should describe events or situations. The time of year is so ambiguous as to be meaningless.
My bees are collecting Ivy and Heather now. I am sure they would be rejected as a spring forage.
