Yep, just a few miles from me and very close to one of my apiaries. NBU say they don't want hornets trapping at this time. Idiots in my opinion. Exactly how the APHA failed to stop signal crayfish. Surely the chances of trapping queens should not be avoided. Anyway, its too late now, they are here for good.

So the AH nest here has been found and in their hopeless ability the powers that be have decided to destroy it next week. Why not today ?????????????? This is exactly why these departments are useless at stopping these events. I wonder how many queens could escape into the local area in this time of dither and delay. Muppets.

You would expet the nest to be destroyed in hours - especially as the season is moving along and the nests will be distributing queens all over the shop.
Hopefully a cold winter for hornets - but only one needs to survive

If the queen finds some warm hibernation spot then she's set to start afresh next year

Needed a specialist climber to deal with it as very high up in a tree. I'm assuming if accessable it would have been destroyued there and then.

Most worrying thing is we have very mild winters here but freezing springs. The weather in April and May is often colder than December and January now.

The latest BBKA news has an article about getting at the hornets nests; my seasonal bee inspector has been in Kent helping out. 60 nests now

This is exactly why I have said on many posts that the APHA would fail. They are useless and should be disbanded. The NBU and APHA are a disgrace in so much as they refuse to publicise the AH nest locations. That is a dereliction of duty, why won't they do this ? I have an apiary close to Yarm but have no idea how close it is to the recent AH nest location. These people are idiots. What are they trying to achieve by keeping beekeepers in the dark? Are they seeking to secure funding by allowing AH to gain a foothold in the UK ? Delays to destruction only allow further queens to escape so they are promoting the spread of AH. Why can they not on discovery destroy the nest on the same day ? Don't give me any crap about resources as I said a year or 2 ago that the Dads army wouldn't work. I have now nothing but suspicion about their motives with regard to AH as they are not serious about its prevention IMHO........... MUPPETS.
