I make make half of my own equipment to save pennies and i also like playing about with wood on the cold dark winter months in the garage..i use 3"x 2" timber and plenty of screws five of which go into each leg that is pre drilled (bolts can be used if preferred)..the front and back of the stand has a batten screwed on for two reasons (1) it take some of the weight from the leg joints and (2) it stops the bees undershooting the landing board on the windy cold days..the legs have a 15 degree angle on them top and bottom and the landing board is made from 8mm ply..
Here are the measurements i use if anyone fancies knocking a few up..
