I notice that John Chambers talk will discuss "are AMM conservation areas likely to disappoint for obvious genetic reasons? Thirdly, might the simple pursuit of locally-adapted honey bees be preferable to the attempted re-creation of a subspecies?"

I went to a BIBBA meeting a couple of weeks ago and the discussion was primarily about practical aspects of selecting, queen-rearing and setting up breeding groups rather than the desire to re-create a bee of the last but one century.

I did discuss wing venation with some people there and suggested that if you breed for a person that has the leg, say, of Hollie Willoughby* , you might eventually get the leg, but you won't get Hollie. The same applies with bee's wings. There was not disagreement!
